My 1st graders could have cared less where the clowns came from, so a few hired/volunteer clowns would have been a perfect solution! I don't know if you can directly blame the principal, but it does show a lack of understanding about how important this is to the kids. I think you should explain your daughter's feelings about it and show how important it is to the kids. The administration may not be aware of all that. I totally agree that a hired clown would be a great substitute. And I agree that the circus is not what it used to be. Our last trip was when it went from three rings to one. It just wasn't the same.
