From the mouths of babes

Moments after I posted Dad Fail, Evan walked up to me with a question.

Evan, 4 years old: "Dad, why do you always say…" He bent over at the waist at a 45 degree angle with his arms hanging straight down and in a deepened gruff voice, "crap crap crap crap crap crap crap…"

It just went on and on but in the end, it turned out he was repeating a noise from the Nintendo DS Mario game.

Please excuse the screwed up aspect ratio on the video but I did that in haste.

The oldest evidence I can find of myself on the Internet

I’ll update this as I find older. So far the oldest evidence I can find of myself on the Internet is an Oct 31, 1991 email recording my YES vote for the creation of the rec.juggling usenet group.

I sent my first packets of information over the Internet in the Fall of 1988. I loved Gopher and Archie and Veronica. I thought IRC was the second best tool in the world with USENET being the greatest. I avoided MUDs fearing they would cause me to fail out of school. I missed the boat on Mosaic writing it off as a bloated toy.

Free Album from Nine Inch Nails

Several artists, including Coldplay (download leftrightleftrightleft here), have figured out that giving music away is a good thing for them and their fans. NIN released its 2008 album The Slip under a Creative Commons license (see FAQ for more info) and made it freely downloadable (here) in several formats including MP3, M4a, and several "better than CD quality" formats. For anything other than MP3 you will need to use a BitTorrent client such as the original client or many people’s favorite, uTorrent, or choose from this list comparing clients.

See also: This looks like a well thought out abstract by Michael Pfahl on Giving Music Away to Make Money. I have only skimmed it so I’m not entirely sure what points are made.

Balloon Boy admits publicity stunt

At exactly 0:40 seconds into this clip, Balloon Boy says, "We did it for the show." Why didn’t Wolf Blitzer call them out and directly ask, "The boy just said you did it for the show. Was this a publicity stunt?" Honestly, is this an interview/reporting or a paid marketing piece?

On the today show the dad explains away the boy’s comment at minute 5:54. At 6:00 the boy throws up! See the Today Show video here or watch it below.

Update: Richard Thomas explains that he helped plan the balloon hoax.
