The media is all about shock these days. Perhaps a few behave that way but I doubt it is the majority. I am personally surprised at how my son seems to be so much less interested in sex than I was at his age. Or he is much smarter at hiding it than I was, lol.

In the same way that the the DC Internet Caucus panel on kids and predation concluded the media had misrepresented the way that children are preyed upon, I'm really hoping that ABC is misrepresenting this issue.

well this is disturbing on many levels and to be really non PC about it quite frankly oral sex is a whole lot more personal, in my opinion and there were folks I might have slept with at one time but certainly would not have put anything of their’s in my mouth. God I am glad not to be a kid now it seems so much more complicated…I don’t think I ever had sex ed at school beyond the film strip about getting your period but I am blessed with parents who did discuss it with me

I talk to my son A LOT about sex, relationships and disease but I feel it is VERY important for him to get outside viewpoints. I suppose I am indoctrinated into the “it takes a village” approach and no matter how open we are, I must always take into account that there are people who know more about certain subjects (like LGBT issues) or people he may feel more comfortable talking to about such issues. It is important that my son knows that my opinions on a subject aren’t necessarily The Law and there are many differing opinions about these issues. I am trying to cover all my bases. I think we do a disservice to our children by only exposing them to one viewpoint, (their parents or church’s viewpoint) which I think is very common in our society.

I want him to make the most informed decisions.

Doug, that’s odd. I know in Sevier County, I’ve had to sign permission slips for my kids to attend Health class for a 6 week period while they were indoctrinated, I mean taught, about reproductive health aka sex ed.

Morgan, here’s thought from a judeo-christian nitwit: Why not teach your son what he needs to know yourself instead of relying on somebody else to do your job?

I don’t think the schools taught myself or are teaching my son enough about sex and relationships.

I’ve enrolled him in a program called Our Whole Lives. I know he probably thinks he knows everything from the internet, movie and tv, but that is precisely why I enrolled him. Sex is a part of life for most everyone and parents avoid talking about it and the schools do a lousy job of teaching about it because they don’t want to offend the judeo-christian nitwits. Abstinence only education and “just wait” programs probably contribute to rampant promiscuity because they aren’t based in reality. Talk to teenagers about sex and about respecting themselves and their partners.

Once upon a time, some parents were concerned that teaching sex ed in schools might lead to more promiscuous behavior.

These parents were ridiculed as being behind the times, scorned as being Bible thumpers, and occasionally even arrested as neglectful parents. Everybody with half a brain knew that schools would do a better job than most parents, who as a group were lazy, shiftless, and too bound up in an archaic judeo-christian morality to do the job right.

The sad thing is that the half wits won the argument; the schools started teaching children how to have sex, and now we see the result.

Of course, the only proper response is to teach even more sex ed in the schools because obviously, the kids still aren’t getting enough.
