The URL shortening service that you never knew about, y.ahoo.it, is shutting down…because Yahoo! kills everything it touches.

The y.ahoo.it URL shortener powered by YQL will be shutdown on November 20th 2013 – a URL shortening service is not one of Yahoo!’s core competencies supporting our users’ Daily Habits.

This is an example of why you should be cautious of becoming too entangled in a third party service for delivery of your content. If you have been using y.ahoo.it to build all the links to your content and Yahoo! decides to no longer maintain those links, your ranking in the search engines could plummet.
