Bizarre Referral Link

Was checking out the referral log today and noticed that Ask Terri of The Wall Street Journal sent a couple of visitors to Reality Me. Yes! The Wall Street Journal! Unfortunately, it must have been a very short blip on their radar because I could find no reference to the link.

    If somebody visits you after they just happen to be reading that blog, would not she come up as the “referrer”?

    No. The referrer url would be blank. The referrer has an address if they click a link from that website to yours. It can be spoofed of course. Interest note, it is misspelled in the HTTP standard as CGI.HTTP_REFERER

    A misspelling of “referrer” which somehow made it into the HTTP standard. A given web page’s referer (sic) is the URL of whatever web page contains the link that the user followed to the current page. Most browsers pass this information as part of a request.
