It’s not OCD. Waffles just taste better if every square has butter in it.

Food for the first time!
Why is that every morning the cats act like they’ve never experienced our feeding routine before?
And now?
An hour and a half has passed. Where did it go?
I awoke at 3am without hesitation. Arose. Did the usually bathroom duties in preparation for the day and got dressed. Began the process of downloading a client’s entire website…a nuisance but even with version control you can never be sure if someone else has altered files; actually, the version control will tell me but it still requires copying the entire site…a process AT&T makes more painful than Comcast but I am not certain I ever want to do business with Comcast the crooks again. Their business practices are unethical but we can discuss that later. Coffee was made. Some recreational websurfing was had. Clothes changed again. Chanting. Breakfast eaten. And back to client work.
The day begins at 3am
Last night the wife complained that I jump out of bed in the middle of the night, get back into bed, mutter colorful vernacular to myself, and repeat the process over and over. So today, when I awoke at 3am, I started my day. How did that day begin? Realizing I desperately need to have my hvac serviced.
I know what the problem is. The heat exchanger is covered in dust. It is not a simple fix but a manageable one…if I could get to the unit. The fact that I cannot get to the unit also precludes my ability to hire someone to do it for me. So? I need a full day to clean the garage…so that I can spend a half a day working on the hvac.
On Parenting
The most frustrating part of parenting is seeing your failings as a parent through the actions or inactions of your children.

OCD – the label is the disorder
I am truly tired of our society’s unhealthy obsession with labeling organized as a disorder. Being meticulous is not a problem. Obsessive compulsive disorder has three words: obsessive, compulsive, and disorder. If your attention to detail, or adherence to order, is not disruptive to your life, then you do not have OCD. So, go ahead and highlight your instructions. Place papers on the table neatly. Those actions are not OCD. If you have to turn your deadbolt three times to leave the house, then you might have a problem. And OCD has an evil twin that is on the opposite end of the spectrum…obsessive compulsive chaos…and frankly, I’d rather turn my deadbolt three times to leave the house (which I don’t) rather than live having to constantly search for things.
Fried
I just returned from 4 days of training in Washington DC. I’m both physically and mentally exhausted. But there is sooo much to do today.
From the mouths of babes
Nice Vietnamese woman cutting my hair: "Yes, we have to cut more off as we get older to make the gray go away."
State of Me
I am tired. I am stressed. I am covered in cat hair.
28 hours with a Pebble Smartwatch
I decided I wanted to be on the forefront of the Smartwatch revolution. For all practical purposes, I’m late. I now own a Pebble Smartwatch and intend to develop apps for it.
My first 28 hours were a delight.
It fits nicely. And naturally tells the date and time.
I can pay for my coffee by scanning that bar code (under the birds).
And the watch gives me directions without my eyes leaving the road.
These are the early days of smartwatches. Essentially we are seeing the proof of concept and the vetting of the potential for these devices. And the potential is huge!
March 20 – International Day of Happiness
For you sadsacks out there, today is International Day of Happiness. Perk up! Let’s spread some joy.
"Happiness may have different meanings for different people. But we can all agree that it means working to end conflict, poverty and other unfortunate conditions in which so many of our fellow human beings live."
Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon
Message for the International Day of Happiness, 20 March 2014
Starting the Day
Most people begin the day with a cheery, "Good morning!" I prefer, "Dammit cat!"
Cringeworthy moment
Cringeworthy moment: Hearing your small child say, "I like your youtube video where you blah blah blah and blah blah and my favorite, chutney!" Do you remember when only adults were on the Internet? My videos do!
Public Education Is Not Free
To anyone who has ever said, "public education is free," I just wrote a $178 check so my son can take two exams.
