This Big Small World

Six years ago Cathy and I walked through West Town Mall. We had a wonderful store called The World of Knowledge. Outside an employee was playing with devil sticks. I borrowed them, showed off, and gave some advice. Apparently she remembered, because six years later we met again at Atomic Tumor’s party and she pointed saying, "ow ow ow! I know you!". It was a good moment. Now she is in the hospital and holding onto life by a thread.

nurses are telling me that her vitals can’t support life for long, that I told my 9 year old son as lightly as I could that his mother might die, that, despite HOW HARD I TRY NOT TO I can’t help figureing out how I’d word her obiturary on this stupid web page because I might just need to, I start to break down. Trapped in the United States

Homeland Security is working on rules to go into effect January 14, 2007 that would require anyone entering or leaving the country to have Homeland Security’s permission.

The U.S. Supreme Court has long recognized there is a constitutional right to travel internationally. Indeed, it has declared that the right to travel is "a virtually unconditional personal right." The United States has also signed treaties guaranteeing "freedom of travel." So if these regulations do go into effect, you can expect a lengthy court battle, both nationally and internationally. … Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union are two countries in recent history

On September 11, 2001, terrorists made an effort to change the United States. With unnecessary, controlling policies like what Homeland Security is proposing, we do nothing to increase security while removing our liberties (liberty being the ability to exercise our freedoms). The terrorists won. While considering this, take a look at the future of air travel.

Bush More Dangerous Than Kim Jong-il

Bush in the Axis of Evil

We related Bush to Hitler. With the rigged elections and the shredding of our Constitution and rights people have called for his impeachment. Now a survey of US allies (Britain, Israel, Canada, and Mexico) shows a belief that the United States is a threat to world peace.

In Britain, 69% of those questioned say they believe US policy has made the world less safe since 2001…The finding is mirrored in America’s immediate northern and southern neighbours, Canada and Mexico, with 62% of Canadians and 57% of Mexicans saying the world has become more dangerous because of US policy. I find it both sad and interesting that the common view is finally coming around to what the evil liberals have been saying for years. GW should have never taken 2004. He should have never had 2000 for that matter. But evil gets what evil wants. I can call him evil since he is now ranked the same as those he once labeled "the axis of evil." It is a crime that so much damage had to be done for people to take notice. I only hope that on Tuesday the couch potato voters find their way to the polls, that Diebold doesn’t screw us, and that the religious zombies turn on their brains long enough to vote for themselves instead of voting for their preacher.

So this is what a Warner Brothers cartoon character feels like!

Anvils are falling on my head. Repeatedly! So my CPU fan dies on my Windows development box. I get laughed out of every store. "haha! Socket 7! They quit using those like 8 years ago!" Ring. Ring. "Honey. Don’t get mad. The power went out and the Internet isn’t coming back on." My head hangs so low that it drags the pavement as I drive home. More anvils. And a cliff. Neep neeep! Oh. I get home and the Internet has come back but the punchline is that my Linux development server didn’t like the power outage and is not coming back to life. That’s the train that comes out of nowhere to run me down.

I don’t see the grass of cubeville as greener. Frankly, I don’t care if cubeville is tumbleweeds and dirt. I am ready to return to the corporate joke. This computer swashbuckler is ready to lay down his sword. After this past decade, there is nothing you could lay in front of me that could phase me.

Comedy Central Returning to Youtube!

Some intern at Viacom’s legal department probably got scolded harshly after Viacom released how popularity of Youtube clips of Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert have helped their shows.

Comedy Central clips aren’t leaving YouTube for good. Viacom, Comedy Central’s corporate parent, has confirmed that it wants to find some way to keep the clips available, and has apparently given the green light for YouTube to put the material back up. No deal between the two firms has yet been done, but it sounds like one is imminent. [Source]

I understand the various business models that could be used to make money from these clips. ABC is doing very well with its popular shows being freely available online. I’ve watched more commercials rewatching Lost online than I would on television. Revver shows a great revenue model by appending an add to the end of every user uploaded video. There are many other ways. But one way to make money is to simply let the video clips air on Youtube and keep the popularity of the shows very high. Thank you Viacom for returning the clips to Youtube!

Why do they have to eat?

I think I’ve used that title before! Some days, I just wish dinner would magically appear without the same script: What’s for dinner? I don’t know. What do you want? Well if you guys are eatting that, I’m having Ramen. Mac and cheese. Steak, Taquitoes, McDonalds. I only eat meat. Vegetables? Bueller? Bueller? Bueller? Chick Fillet! Yuueck. Can I eat my room? Candy!
