Being a Boy Scout leader makes me happy. I enjoy helping some young men define their character and learn new skills. Tonight I demonstrated a Whisper Lite cooking stove and engaged the scouts in a discussion about backpack cooking. Two other leaders demonstrated different types of stoves. The boys mostly enjoyed seeing fire.

August Happiness Challenge
Sweat pours from my body like I am standing in a light drizzle. I know these experiences make me stronger. Today I cleaned in preparation for the A/C guy to install our new unit. I have a way to go to clear him a wide enough birth. I am happy with the progress made!
August Happiness Challenge
Watching Tommy perform at the STAR annual horse show makes me happy. I am thrilled that he has achieved such success. Seeing him perk up at the winning of a blue ribbon in one category after taking a 5th place in another made me even happier!
August Happiness Challenge
I am happy today because I am getting to do the things that I have had to ignore these past few weeks.
Sidebar: This is hard. I was very happy until about an hour ago. I’m not really happy at all right now. I mostly feel like giving up.
August Happiness Challenge
August comes at a terribly trying time for me. The A/C is broken and we are all grouchy and uncomfortable. Money is tight and next to Christmas, this is the most expensive time of year for our family. However, I have two things that have made me very happy today (I’ll do 2 since I missed yesterday). 1) The insurance company was eager to help with our hvac woes (keeping fingers crossed that they don’t change their mind) and 2) a major project that has been albatrossing me got finished today. Oh yes, there will be some wrap up work based on client feedback, but now I can move forward!
August Challenge – Projects
I am happy that today I generated invoices. I am also happy that I purchased materials that will see progress on another project.

August Challenge – Getting Things Done
I highly recommend my web host. The way it reports statistics in the user control panel is a little weak. I have full access to the server logs and could process them through Webtrends for detailed reporting but it should be easier. I have been procrastinating on installing PhpMyVisites for my wife. Little procrastinations hang over your head and become huge burdens. I finally have a nice statistics report package in place for my wife to monitor her sites!

August Challenge – Choices
I have walked some rocky paths but I wouldn’t change a single step of my journey because I love where I am. I am happy with the choices I have made in my life.
Cathy says, "It’s not the destination. It’s the journey." And I am so happy to have her on this journey with me.Can you meet The August Challenge?

August Challenge – Cable TV
Eek! I missed yesterday so this post is for yesterday’s challenge. Yesterday I was happy that Tuesday night I took some time to fish a coax cable up through Noah’s wall, across the attic, and down into the girls’ wall so that the television which has been in their room since Christmas now has basic cable as promised. Additionally, our fried cable box (blown during a power outage two weeks ago) has been replaced and our digital guide is back! Did not realize how important that guide has become to our television viewing. Did not realize the quantity and quality of educational television that comes on the upper digital channels and is lacking from the lower channels. Evan is dancing again. Amy is learning her spelling again.Thank you Noggin! Btw, television and physical activity with children still needs to be monitored but after observing how television has helped the children with vocabulary, words, math, and concepts, I will never again call it a simple babysitter for today’s television is truly an educational aid. I still like to see it turned off periodically.
Oh, Tommy and Noah are learning to blow things up (thank you Mythbusters and I don’t care what Adam and Jamie say I still don’t want forks in the microwave). And Sarah is watching some anime crap that comes on the lower channels anyway. Yeah yeah. I know. I watched it too when I was her age.

August Challenge – Early Bird
I am happy that I was able to pull myself from bed at 4am. The silence is soothing. The crackling of a tree branch breaking and falling to the ground is pronounced in a way that would be lessened or missed during the day.
