And he vanished…

I read something today which almost prompted me to try to delete my online identity. I guess one would call that virtual suicide.

  1. Erm… but..Doug you have so much to virtually live for. So many virtual friends that would miss you.

I’d be pretty sad if you or Cathy deleted yourselves. I think it takes a lot of courage to put yourselves out there and I’m sure sometimes it has a heavy price but I know you guys make my days more interesting and you make Knoxville and virtual Knoxville a better place to live.

  2. I’ve been online on the Internet since 1988. Prior to that was years on FidoNet. I couldn’t delete me if I tried. I’d always be a ghost in the machine somewhere. I hope the words above did not read as, "I quit." I just wanted to express the bizarre feeling I had last night. I always had a slight disdain for bloggers that announced they were quiting. See, if you are truly quiting, you simply stop. If you have to announce that you are quiting, that feels like a cry for attention.

Oh, and I, nor Cathy, would never quit. My mutilated quote from Throw Mama from the Train explains: "A blogger blogs, always."

You spoke of courage. I’d like to see us brave enough to be a bit more forthcoming in our writing, mine at least, as I think there are some interesting aspects of our life that I would like to document and I believe people would enjoy but overreaches even my comfort zone.

    Thanks for your kind words!
