Tonight is so beautiful

The fog is thick

And the air absolutely still

Only a car or two can be heard

    in the distance

No planes fly tonight

Few lights pollute the darkness

The crickets are silent

The possum and raccoon have stayed home

A hoot owl speaks twice then says no more

My puppy sits faithfully with me

She too is still like the air

The air is crisp like a walk-in freezer

    at the grocery

But not cold

I could sleep on this log tonight

There is magic in the air

Blessed be

I have found calm and peace

After having a child yell at me

    For three hours

Stop Dreaming While You Can January 4, 2005 8:29 am

I have watched so many simple dreams and wishes fade off into the distance that I have reached a point in my life where I believe it is less painful to quit dreaming than it is to have dreams and not see them fulfilled.

Giving up? No. I need not dreams. My children need dreams and hopes. Rather than waste dreams on me I will help them develop their own dreams and be happy by seeing theirs fulfilled.

Ada Calhoun in her essay “Middle Ground” explains “Why teenage girls and middle-aged men belong together.

I haven’t read the article yet but it’s got one of those titles that makes you do a double-take.

Last night the cat and the puppy slept on the bed with Cathy and I all night long. Usually they chase each other. It was quite nice.

We pushed our couch back against the wardrobe so the girlscouts could all gather on the floor for their sleep over. The dogs are flipped because they can’t walk behind it to go outside. We open the door and they (mainly the 12 year old) pace back and forth trying to figure out how to go behind the couch instead of walking straight out the front door.

The cat has knocked a single piece of food out of her bowl and it went under some mail on my desk. Now she is digging manically to get that one piece of food.

It must be this house!

My wife has a 30 GB Ipod that because of her Windows 98 computer she basically could not use. I feared the battery so dead at this point that it would have to be replaced. I bought a 2 year, no questions asked replacement warrantee but I think I let it expire without using the warantee. (action item for self: go bang head repeatedly into a concrete wall)

I’ve had the Ipod charging directly from a wall socket instead of the firewire port for the past two days and I’ll be darned if the doggone thing didn’t turn on this morning! Going to keep her charging for a bit whilst I find the software and see if it holds a charge. I still fear the need to buy a replacement battery.
