Microsoft is offering 100,000 free downloads of its new operating system Windows Vista. This is a beta 2 pre-release candidate 1. That means it should probably work with no problems but you could also end up with a disfuctional computer.

What I want to know is how long the license is good. Will you still have to buy the product when it comes out, or are you really getting a $100+ OS for free?

In the beta programs by Microsoft that I participated in and actually gave decent feedback to them I received a product as a thank you.

Yeah, but WHY? Every one of MS’s previous OSs are practially betas until the first SP comes out. Its almost like going to the store to buy a nightly.

For the record, I did not download one of the 100,000 copies.
