I love headlines
A headline from HuffPo today: "Photojournalist Gang-Raped In Mumbai: Police"
My first thought was that it needed an addition: "Incident well documented."

And no one pulled their guns out
A common argument I hear for concealed carry is that the armed citizenry will step up until the police can arrive. Walmart sells guns. Walmart has a clientele who love their guns and probably carry one or more guns with or without a concealed carry permit. But when a man walked into a South Carolina Walmart and killed his wife, no one intervened. Police only caught him after he wrecked his truck during the get-a-way.
Holiday shoppers at a South Carolina Walmart watched in horror as a man stabbed his wife to death in the store during a heated argument, authorities said.

So these arguments for guns, are they invalid? No one tried to help despite the armory in sporting goods. And what about the concealed carry people? Where were they? I contend it is an invalid argument and that civilians will not take action. In this case, the murderer walked out of the store unopposed.

The Office
It’s been 3.75 years since I gave up my desk in the basement of my house. From time to time, I wonder why.

Enlightenment
Eventually the fog will lift
Revealing the landscape
Ravaged by blind pre-dawn fumbling
Hope for a lengthy day
In which to repair the damage
Before dusk comes
Bringing darkness again. -
That Place
Between desperation
Desire to fold
A longing to lie down
And go no further
And glowing optimism
Working hard for the top
The willingness to win
And putting in the effort
Is the Crossroads. -

Watchful neighbors
Yesterday our very active neighborhood watch, which sends an email when an unfamiliar face walks down the street, was completely silent as a tow truck maneuvered around our parked cars to drag off two clunkers from our lot. Instead of calling to ask if this was expected, left over 4th of July party favors exploded among the exuberant cheers of our rejoicing neighbors who did not care if the cars were being stolen by metal scrapers or legitimately being removed by a car dealer. Thanks guys!

A blogger blogs, always
A writer who waits for ideal conditions under which to work will die without putting a word on paper.
– Kurt VonnegutSometimes I hear people say, "blogging is dead" or "I don’t get any visitors anymore" or "no one reads this anymore." I’ve said it myself. My wife has said it. My blogging friends have said it. My blogging friends who no longer blog have said it and committed blogicide.
Visitors, comments, stats…none of it matters. Write! Writing matters.

From the mouths of babes
17 year old: "How many miles does the Jeep get on a tank of gas?"
Me: "About 228 before I get nervous."
Son: sends picture of gas gauge pointing to the red just above E and replies, "I can make it to school."It’s time to hide an empty one gallon container and a $20 bill in the Jeep. Nothing teaches one to respect the inaccuracies of a gas gauge quite like having to walk for gas.

Political correctness has gone way too far
I take you back to 1939 when people had backbones and priorities and our society made progress because we weren’t hampered by political correctness.
