Can’t stop the signal! December 8, 2006 8:40 am
Posted by Doug McCaughan in : Announcements, Firefly / Serenity, Of Interest, TV / MoviesJoss Whedon said Firefly is no more and we have seen all kinds of drama and hype yet the fan base shows no sign of slowing. Fans have even created their own documentary. How will the series continue on? Look for an announcement today that Firefly will be turned into a MMORPG. Move over World of Warcraft! We have Reavers to fight and smuggling to do!

The Inheritance Books November 30, 2006 9:02 am
Posted by Doug McCaughan in : Book / Magazine, Of Interest, Publishing, Reviews, TV / MoviesChristopher Paolini began writing Eragon when he graduated from high school at the age of 15. Eragon and the second book in the Inheritance series, Eldest
, captivated me. I shunned responsibility to absorb chapter after chapter. Book 3 is scheduled to release Summer 2007. That will be a long wait! And I will have to fight Tommy for first read. Eragon the movie is airing its trailer now and will be in theaters on December 15, 2006.
Eragon is an epic story of a farm boy’s travels in a land with dragons, elves, dwarves, and humans ruled by an all powerful overlord complete with allegiances, underground resistances, ancient broken promises, and magic. The book is riveting with unexpected plot twists that wrench at your sympathies. I must balance that statement by pointing out at times I felt the story was somewhat formulaic as attempted to guess its direction; however, it never failed to disappoint. I give it a high recommendation and suggest reading the book before seeing the movie.

LOS ANGELES (AP) – Neil Patrick Harris is gay and wants to quell any rumors to the contrary. “(I) am quite proud to say that I am a very content gay man living my life to the fullest,” Harris tells People magazine’s Web site. [Source]
hehe. Apparently "White Castle" is only in America. The Canadian title is "Harold et Kumar chassent le burger" and the UK title is "Harold & Kumar Get the Munchies" Fans may be happy to hear that scheduled for 2007 is "Harold and Kumar Go to Amsterdam." Color me skeptical.

Posted by Doug McCaughan in : Firefly / Serenity, Of Interest, TV / MoviesThe series ended abruptly with no closure. Through fan support Serenity the movie was spawned to bring closure. It did poorly in the box office with $38 million in ticket sales not clearing the $39 million production budget. Why?! DVD sales helped. The fans begged for more. Whedon has declared Firefly over. Now Universal sues to fan to stop promoting Firefly/Serenity. So, now the fans are billing Universal for time spent promoting the movie.
See also and also. Expect a take down notice on this so if you like it download it with keepvid. Of course, there is a wikipedia entry.

1 comment so farPala Ferry Mentioned in Orientation Tapes October 12, 2006 12:39 pm
Posted by Doug McCaughan in : Lost, Of Interest, TV / MoviesBarry notes that the dock is labeled Pala Ferry not Sala Ferry. Lost Pedia gives us this information regarding Pala Ferry:
add a commentThe Pala Ferry is a ferry system referred to in the Pearl Orientation Video. Dr. Mark Wickmund states “…At the end of your eight hour shift proceed to the Pala Ferry which will take you back to the barracks…“. There is a pier and dock on the northern shore of The Island that has a covered canopy with the words “Pala Ferry” on the top. Presumably this is the docking point for the ferry and location the Pearl team would travel to when they boarded the ferry. The Pala Ferry pier has been used by the The Others as a docking point for their boat, and by Jin, Sun, and Sayid to dock the sailboat. It appears to be grown over and in a state of general dis-use, though looks can be deceiving. [Source]
LOST Revelations and Questions October 12, 2006 10:30 am
Posted by Doug McCaughan in : Lost, Of Interest, TV / MoviesSo, why are The Others so certain that the sail boat would just sail in circles? "sailing in circles will keep them busy." And why does Colleen think that the sail boat could find them. Didn’t the season opener show the village inland? What is the "us" that they might find. Why would Ben so easily give Micheal a boat then get so eagar about the sail boat?
What was Jin’s relation to Sun’s lover? When he saw the picture, his face lit up with recognition.
I thought the young guy in the cage that tried to escape was a plant to mess with Sawyer’s mind but the appearance of Alex with concern for him negates that. So, who is he? The work area with Kate and Sawyer isn’t just a labor camp. They are studying blueprints.
The dock seen at 17:10 is labled Sala Ferry (I think) – the lettering is a little cryptic. Little side note. Using gas to start a fire is dangerous, unnecessary and typically ineffective. Sayid should have been able to start the signal fire without the gas.
More after I make a programming milestone…

Message from Alvar Hanso October 6, 2006 6:29 am
Posted by Doug McCaughan in : Lost, Of Interest, TV / MoviesCurrently on TheHansoFoundation.org:
To all:
The path of secrecy is a slippery slope. While necessity may dictate, at times, that we shade ourselves and our work from the all-too-often harsh light of inquiry, habitual secret-keeping can mire even the noblest of intentions in shadow. it is this shadow I fell prey to, blinded not only to the actions of colleagues like Dr. Thomas Werner Mittelwerk, but also to the works of my own hand.
I fear the lessons learned have cost many their happiness. Some few have even lost their lives. My regret for this is endless. But, I assure you now, as I did then, that the work of The Hanso Foundation has always been intended to bring rebirth to a dying land and a dying people.
Our methods must change. As of this moment, The Hanso Foundation enters a period of restructure and overhaul. Transparency and oversight will be our guiding prinicples, excellence in communication and response to feedback our greatest strengths. To save humanity, we need first tap into just that – our humanity.
Much time has passed – perhaps too much. Thanks to the tireless efforts of my daughter, Rachel Blake, and a worldwide movement set against the dark entity that was Thomas Mittelwerk’s regime, I have been exonerated and freed from imprisonment. Thanks to the grace and foresight of the Global Welfare Consortium, we at The Hanso Foundation have been given a second chance to build a future that can support, enrich, and cradle us all in peace and joy.
It is to this I dedicate my life and my Foundation. My only hope is that you will join me.
Namaste,
