Sunday! A day of rest…scratch that…a day of work. May 18, 2014 10:07 am

Today is Sunday. The weather is cool. What a beautiful day to work on the yard, stake tomatoes, finish hole 2 of the miniature golf (yes, we are building one of those in the yard), and work on the Jeep. I toyed with sleeping in but the animals would have none of that (Feed us! Let us outside! Get up!). Thus far, I have taken my son to work, read a book, and done some planning with the wife. Now listening to The Mighty Mighty Bosstones radio station on Pandora. Just finished listening to Save Ferris‘ The World Is New. Now listening to Buck-O-Nine‘s My Town. Let’s try to get some client work completed.

Last night I asked my son if the dogs had enough food for this morning. This word "yes" I do not think it means what he thinks it means.

China Mulls Building High Speed Line to the United States May 8, 2014 8:35 pm

China now owns so much of the United States that they are considering building a high speed rail from China to the US to be able to check on their investment.

Yes, you heard correctly. The United States cannot build a high speed rail across its own country, TN cannot build a high speed rail from Knoxville to Chattanooga, yet China is considering crossing multiple continents and countries with a high speed rail. Once that is complete, a short leap across the Middle East to the Chunnel and we will be able to travel the world by train! How’s that for an Oriental Express Agatha!

The proposed journey will start from China’s northeast region, cross Siberia to Bering Strait, and run across the Pacific Ocean by undersea tunnel to reach Alaska, from Alaska to Canada, then on to its final destination, the US. To cross Bering Strait will require approximately 200km undersea tunnel, the technology, which is already in place will also be used on Fujian to Taiwan high-speed railway tunnel. The project will be funded and constructed by China. … With average speed of 350km per hour, passengers will complete the 1,3000km journey and reach the US in less than two days.

Bit battles becoming bad between bumbling broadband billionaires begging before bureaucrats budding bigger billionaires by breaking beneficial businesses before bludgeoning bourgeois’ bandwidth.

Level 3, a tier 1 Internet service provider based in Colorado, has called out Comcast, Charter, Time Warner Cable and other top U.S. ISPs…

“They are deliberately harming the service they deliver to their paying customers,” Taylor wrote. "They are not allowing us to fulfil the requests their customers make for content."

Be it the spoon? Or the fork? May 6, 2014 3:42 pm

I snarf down the last of my $6 fast food taco combo meal and feel it hit my stomach with such weight that feels like all the food I’ve avoided since December was simultaneously shoved down my gullet. This three o’clock in the afternoon lunch was a mistake but I had to eat. I read another paragraph in The Disappearing Spoon: And Other True Tales of Madness, Love, and the History of the World from the Periodic Table of the Elements and glance over at my plastic utensils. The two enchiladas, taco, and a tostada have dribbled an array of lettuce, guacamole and other scrumptiousness in the styrofoam container which servers as my china. This is cubical life in all its glory. The spoon seems like the correct implement to finish off the delightfulness. Can’t let any of that six dollars go to waste. I pick up the fork and knife to stow away for later. They plastic utensils have intrinsic value in the office place. I take pause. Looking away from the Kindle I hold the fork and knife in one hand, and the spoon in the other. A long silent stare is interrupted by the voice in my head, "but which one is more valuable?!" The spoon of course! It and the knife join the pile of plastic office currency hidden away in a draw behind a file folder labeled "do not eat."

A moment of bliss May 6, 2014 12:50 pm

For on this day, without the aid of Xanax or other mood altering substances, I experienced serenity. For the briefest of moments, all was well within my universe. Calm obtained. I held it. I tasted it. I bathed in it while trying to ignore the low rumble of the calamity which is certain to follow.
