Poison in the air

Chlorine gas evacuates Apex, NC (relatively speaking, that’s just east of here – oh perhaps 3 to 500 miles east).

"This is the worst possible hazardous materials incident you could have," Radford said. [Source]

30 miles or so roughlly northwest of us they store the same stuff.

See also CNN coverage. This stuff makes me kick myself for letting my ARC training expire and for not having aquired Molly’s CD certification yet.

Message from Alvar Hanso

Currently on TheHansoFoundation.org:

To all:

The path of secrecy is a slippery slope. While necessity may dictate, at times, that we shade ourselves and our work from the all-too-often harsh light of inquiry, habitual secret-keeping can mire even the noblest of intentions in shadow. it is this shadow I fell prey to, blinded not only to the actions of colleagues like Dr. Thomas Werner Mittelwerk, but also to the works of my own hand.

I fear the lessons learned have cost many their happiness. Some few have even lost their lives. My regret for this is endless. But, I assure you now, as I did then, that the work of The Hanso Foundation has always been intended to bring rebirth to a dying land and a dying people.

Our methods must change. As of this moment, The Hanso Foundation enters a period of restructure and overhaul. Transparency and oversight will be our guiding prinicples, excellence in communication and response to feedback our greatest strengths. To save humanity, we need first tap into just that – our humanity.

Much time has passed – perhaps too much. Thanks to the tireless efforts of my daughter, Rachel Blake, and a worldwide movement set against the dark entity that was Thomas Mittelwerk’s regime, I have been exonerated and freed from imprisonment. Thanks to the grace and foresight of the Global Welfare Consortium, we at The Hanso Foundation have been given a second chance to build a future that can support, enrich, and cradle us all in peace and joy.

It is to this I dedicate my life and my Foundation. My only hope is that you will join me.

Namaste,
Alvar Hanso {signature}

Good, clear color picture of Alvar Hanso! So, does this just mean the online game is over?

Lost – Spoilers

The wife points out that it takes roughly 2 weeks to brainwash someone.

What’s up with the speaker in Jack’s cell? "It hasn’t worked in years." Screwing with his mind? Or was something trying to communicate to Jack unbeknownst to The Others?

I don’t think Zeke "came out of the closet" but merely told Kate that he wasn’t interested in her.

SCORE! The speaker says, "Let it go Jack." in his father’s voice.

Lost – Spoilers

It’s bugging me that I don’t have time to write a review so I’ll spit tidbits here and there.

  • The escapee that released Sawyer was the plumber at the beginning of the show. The plumber was Ethan.
  • I believe some of you (and others) are giving The Others too much credit with regard to Jack’s dossier. Nothing terribly revealing in the info. They have been spying on our people and Kate was obviously tortured so she probably spilled info.
  • Here is a Lost glossary – needs more work
  • They never intended Sawyer to be fed polar bear food. Just a left over gizmo from a previous tenant.

See also and also and also. Just incase you don’t know or have forgotten, ABC has the show online for free along with Grey’s Anatomy, Desperate Housewives, Ugly Betty, Six Degrees, The Nine, andThe Knights of Prosperity.

7.7 Earthquake to hit Knoxville on June 19, 2007

Welcome new readers! Please consider adding the Reality Me feed to your favorite news reader. You can follow me on Twitter @djuggler. I also highly recommend reading Domestic Psychology.

Mark your calendars! The New Madrid fault line will slip! "Southern Illinois, southeast Missouri, western Kentucky and northwest Tennessee would be among the hardest hit areas." The last time the New Madrid (1812) slipped the Mississippi River flowed backwards (see map showing waterfalls) creating Reelfoot Lake (Eagle Cam and history and info) and rung church bells in Richmond, Virginia and Boston, Massachusetts.

The probability of magnitude 6.0 or greater in the near future is considered significant; a 90% chance of such an earthquake by the year 2040 has been given. [Source]

Memphis could very well be the next Katrina! So, how do I know that a 7.7 will hit on June 19, 2007?

A mock earthquake – drill – June 19, 2007 will register a magnitude of 7.7 and last 34 seconds, encompassing the entire New Madrid area. Southern Illinois, southeast Missouri, western Kentucky and northwest Tennessee would be among the hardest hit areas. [Source]

The Associated Press released these details of the drill on August 18, 2006.

Kevin Turner of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency said the Gaseous Diffusion Plant in Paducah (images) and the Honeywell International Plant in Metropolis, Ill., (links) which produces uranium hexaflouride, are both near the fault line.

Each could produce devastating fallout in a major earthquake… [Source]

Update: Will the Big One hit West Tennessee again?

I haven’t chimed in on Foley yet

I am not certain that I have made a strong enough effort to introduce many of you to Ze Frank. After losing, Amanda (ie. the Rocketboom fiasco), I more or less turned my daily 3 minutes of "I’ll watch anything" to Ze Frank’s The Show. My standard disclaimer is that Ze Frank is very bright but uses some language that might not be appropriate in certain settings – maybe not quite Red Fox but definitely not Bill Cosby.

All that aside, I think today Ze Frank pretty much summed up the Foley stuff. Push play and see for yourself.

Google’s Hidden Search Engine

Google is trying some new tricks. They call it SearchMash. You can actually give feedback on the usefulness of features. It is unbranded as to not skew opinions or results. Google answers some questions here along with some speculation. It looks like this could be the work of Udi Manber, previouslyl of Amazon’s A9 search engine.
