Lost Numbers

Until I can get caught on my work and do a decent Lost review, I’m summize with: The food has been bugging me since Desmond’s introduction. The day he cracked a fresh egg into a glass I thought "they are getting supplies somehow." When Henry asked, "how old is that cereal?" my thoughts that they were getting resupplied were solidified. Seeing the parachute drop was awesome! Now, who thinks these guys are on an elaborate set like the Truman Show? Do the blast doors come down in the hatch so that the occupants don’t see that the food supplies are delivered by truck from a secret tunnel and not actually air dropped? If that’s so, why does the staff resupply and risk getting caught when they know that people are outside of the bunker? I must stop for now.

Numbers note from Hurley’s April 5 show: There were 23 people on the deck when it collapsed. The deck was designed to hold 8.

My brain has been damaged

The Higglytown Heroes just did The Time Warp. (they tried diguising it with word changes to make it about how to find a lost family member)

I have some interesting memories of The Rocky Horror Picture Show (amz). I recall the very first show I attended (in Memphis circa 1987) and a participant recited "the menu" in a way that got him a standing ovation. I’ve never seen its duplicate. When I was the treasurer of the Clement Hall Resident’s Association I also ran the movie nights (I’d start off with cartoons, then a popular movie, an intermission of cartoons, another (cult) movie, then finish off the remaining cartoons). On Friday nights, I’d pull out a bootleg copy of RHPS (this was prior to its 1990 release) at midnight. We even did a virgin call in the lobby of Clement Hall. I was always an audience member and never a cast member. The shows at the Terrace Tap House were a blast. My last show there was very … um… interesting.

Lost – Bangui connection

Heard a funny commercial on the radio today! "What’s the question on everyone’s mind? Is there a new episode of Lost tonight? YES!" Very funny.

So, want to see what the island of Lost is shaped like? Follow me. This ride is approximate 10 minutes long. You will need Google Earth installed on your computer.

  1. Let’s do some research. Go to Blingo (aka Google with prizes) and search for "Bangui"
  2. Choose the wikipedia link (shortcut)
  3. Now that we’ve learned a bit about Bangui, namely that it is a "commune or federal district in the Central African Republic," let’s return to Blingo and search for "Bangui Magnetic Anomaly" Peruse the links and gain a little background insight.
  4. Open Google Earth and search for "Bangui" which should put you in Africa
  5. While on Bangui in Google Earth, search for "4 8 15 16 23 42" (latitude 4° 8.15 longitude 16° 23.42)
  6. Put the check back on Bangui and zoom out to see that both searches are in the same region. The numbers are just left of Bangui where the meteor hit.
  7. Let’s find the antipode for the coordinates 4 8 15 16 23 42, that means the exact opposite place on the earth. Search for "-4 8 15 164 23 42" (180-16 = 164) As you zoom out you should start to recognize the spot as being a point between Australia and LA if you were 1000 miles off course.

BTW, The map picture in step 2 is what I conjecture the writers have based the shape of the island on. I think this trail touches on many potential sources for several of the story lines we have seen.

Nexus originally posted theory somewhere and reposted it on 4815162342.com. Click more to see the original post.

The deadlines are here

So today is a very, very important day to me. I wanted to wake early but the sleep was necessary. In order to see this day through I planned it out by hours. 8-9 x would get done; 9-10 y will get done and so forth. Already I am behind because of factors I could not predict or plan for. There is much to be lost today.

New Lost tonight! If I can squeeze in the time, I have something juicy to post also!

LOST – Hurley backstory coming

Excellent!

Garcia says Lost fans eager to learn more about Hurley’s backstory will be treated to another Hurley flashback episode this season that depicts his time in a mental institution. “The episode is really interesting,” he says. “[What happened to him while he was in the institution] was even a question I had.”

I was lead to this by lost-tv.

Lost Thought

What if Libby, aka clinical psychologist, was the spy and her husband, let’s guess Henry Gale, are actually part of the psychology experiments on-going as part of the Dharma project. Dharma never ended. The Dharma scientists crash planes and ships to obtain new test subjects. Let’s pull it back in from far fetched conjecture. Back to Libby and Henry. Libby’s job is to psychologically evaluate the beach crew. Henry got caught checking on her or running a report back to The Others and now he starts some psychological warfare.

When Sayid was questioning Henry, Henry tried to gain control over Sayid with references to "have you lost someone?" Sayid, with his own psychological training used Henry’s bait rather than being entrapped by it. I think Mr Eko, who applies his own brand of psychology, befuddled Henry Gale and scared him since Gale couldn’t assess Eko…of course, then there was the knife. We saw Henry Gale successfully get to Locke and we can guess how that is going to play out. I’d wager to say that next week we see Gale make a play on Jack.

Henry Gale may be a prisoner but he’s going on the offensive.

Remember the reasons for Dharma:

According to a choppy ”orientation film” found in the hatch, Dharma founders Gerald and Karen DeGroot established a research facility on the island in the 1970s to conduct experiments in meteorology, zoology, electromagnetism, psychology, and parapsychology.

We have seen zoology (polar bear, shark tagged with Dharma symbol…). We have seen meteorology ("you mean the freakish end of the world weather"). We have seen electromagnetism (suspected reason for crash, thumping wall in hatch, …). I think we’ve witnessed lots of psychology including the costumes of The Others. And parapsychology (the beast?). What if Henry Gale wasn’t just listening through the door but was using parapsychology to listen to their minds? What if the reason Henry Gale was so afraid of Mr Eko was not the knife but instead because he couldn’t read his mind or perhaps read it all too well!

The Dharma medical facility looked as if it was emptied hastily. Perhaps Libby warned them that Claire was coming. Of course, if that was the case, why not don the costumes and scare her away? But if they didn’t want an encounter, quickly getting out could also explain why the costumes were forgotten.

Lost Review

I thought this was an incredible episode of Lost. They did a fine job of playing each of the characters. The backstory was excellent and surprising. I find the cooperation and tension between Jack and Locke very interesting yet frustrating. I find it amusing how the "leaders" get to live in the palace. The writers are making choices with Jack that I would not have expected. With his initial desire to not be the group’s natural leader you would think he would be open and revealing about everything to everyone but instead he has become more secretive as he has become more accepting of his role in power. The Others are obviously a very intellectual group with their captive seeming to catch on quickly to people’s weaknesses and fiddle playing with them. Are the doors really thin, or do The Others have enhanced abilities? Increased hearing capacity? Mind reading?

The Other Lost

The Reign of Ellen has great LOST reviews. Today she posted one word and received 17 comments! Comment #16 MUST be read! The anonymous poster did an incredible job. I’ll quote an exerpt which has SPOILERS from last night’s show:

[First she points out the name and city of the captive is an anagram (just like Ethan’s was):] HENRY GALE MINNESOTA = SEE AN OTHER MAN LYING

[then there is the connection to the balloon:] He’s so full of hot air.

[regarding the description of the balloon:] He was describing the dimensions of Steve Fossett’s balloon, Spirit of Freedom, which Fossett used to make his round-the-world solo flight, starting and ending in Australia.

Spirit of Freedom was sponsored by Bud Light. Budweiser’s mascot is
… a frog.

[Henry’s dead wife went to the U. of Minnesota:] The U. of Minnesota is in Minneapolis, a TWIN city. The school’s teams are called the Golden Gophers. Henry is a go-fer for The Others.

Let me throw in a couple of other tidbits. Henry Gale was Dorothy’s Uncle in The Wizard of Oz. The Wizard escaped in a hot air ballon. Oz is the nickname for Australia.

Lost in Weirdness

For today’s LOST commentary, I bow to Weird Al (slooooow load but well worth it! Did I meantion that this is a slow load?). The man should be knighted!

On a side note, a gross number of people seem to be misunderstanding the noise as the countdown clock hit zero. Michael, the island’s resident engineer and awol mad father, was inspecting some large, thick steel things in the ceiling that appeared to be “blast doors” so the noises would be the safety latches releasing in preparation to drop the blast doors and lock everyone inside.

My wife, in her wisdom, has pointed out that at least 4 of the islanders were involved in (or related to) a car wreck. Jack’s wife, Shannon’s dad, Locke, Michael and potentially Kate. Was this all the same accident?

As for the frog incident, I believe Sawyer was simply letting Hugo know, despite Hurley’s attempt to walk away, Sawyer was still in control.
