Posted by Doug McCaughan in : Daily LifeYesterday our very active neighborhood watch, which sends an email when an unfamiliar face walks down the street, was completely silent as a tow truck maneuvered around our parked cars to drag off two clunkers from our lot. Instead of calling to ask if this was expected, left over 4th of July party favors exploded among the exuberant cheers of our rejoicing neighbors who did not care if the cars were being stolen by metal scrapers or legitimately being removed by a car dealer. Thanks guys!

Sometimes I hear people say, "blogging is dead" or "I don’t get any visitors anymore" or "no one reads this anymore." I’ve said it myself. My wife has said it. My blogging friends have said it. My blogging friends who no longer blog have said it and committed blogicide.
Visitors, comments, stats…none of it matters. Write! Writing matters.

Me: "About 228 before I get nervous."
Son: sends picture of gas gauge pointing to the red just above E and replies, "I can make it to school."
It’s time to hide an empty one gallon container and a $20 bill in the Jeep. Nothing teaches one to respect the inaccuracies of a gas gauge quite like having to walk for gas.

Posted by Doug McCaughan in : Daily Life, Family, HouseThe weekend began with a visit to a client’s office where we accomplished none of her goals but an hour later had a plan. Relatives were visiting so family took priority which ultimately meant Chuck E Cheese and sushi with Froyoz for dessert. Then there was massive cleaning, throwing away of things, Goodwilling piles, and room moves. The house is gaining a new sense of order despite the current disarray. I can once again enter my garage! Things are only getting better.

It’s a special kind of hell where you have to wake up early, walk around the house like zombies, and still arrive at work far later than desired. I had just attuned my body to getting to work between 7am and 7:30am.
This year we return to having a child in elementary, a child in middle, a child in high school, and a child in college. It’s not quite the same as the year we had 5 children in 5 schools and only had 1 working vehicle. But this is close.
Please drive safely particularly in school zones. The children are out. Those few seconds you save by speeding are not worth the lives you risk.

In use though, it never really worked so I’m not surprised to see Google shutdown Latitude. I’m still disappointed. I saw such opportunity. Perhaps Waze will make up for it.
