Posted by Doug McCaughan in : Amy, Daily Life, Family, Of Being Dad, SarahToday, Amy will go to school dressed like Minnie Mouse. We did it last Wednesday and walked into the school to see most people not in costume. Fortunately, Amy had an extra shirt in the car. Two or three children remained in costume, one with hair dyed orange, as the teachers explained the date had changed and we must have missed the memo. Amy was having an overtired tantrum and part of me just wanted to take her home. I also didn’t want her to feel bad being one of the only children (at first I thought ‘the only’) in costume but I really do not think 4 year old minds think things like that until adults put such thoughts of self-doubt and insecurity into their minds. I think she would have proudly shown off her costume despite the other children. That’s the correct, confident response we should maintain all our lives. I hope I can instill such confidence. I don’t see it in Sarah.

Posted by Doug McCaughan in : Daily LifeThe most repeated phrase the children hear from me recently is "Pay attention to the world around you." Most frequently this is directed to Noah as he plays a game or gets too deeply into a book while Evan is nearby making a mess, getting stuck, or spilling something.

Posted by Doug McCaughan in : Daily LifeI decided to clean out some of our kitchen cabinets. Just found 811g of Nestle Carnation Instant Breakfast powdered drink mix. Expired Sept 2001. Never opened. I guess we really don’t like this product.

Stupid Lawyers DMCA Comedy Central Clips on Youtube October 28, 2006 10:37 am
Posted by Doug McCaughan in : News, Of Interest, TechnologyColbert joked about needing a check for $700million since roughly a third of all movies on YouTube were from the Colbert Report at the time of YouTube’s $1.6billion sale to Google. "Jon Stewart and Daily Show Executive Producer even encouraged viewers to watch the show on the Internet."
I received a couple of emails from YouTube this afternoon (see below) notifying me that a third party (probably attorneys for Comedy Central) had made a DMCA request to take down Colbert Report and Daily Show clips. [Source]
When will the lawyers and the RIAA et al realise that the distribution of clips on mediums like YouTube only create benefit and popularity for the program, artist, album and so forth. Can old dogs like Senator Stevens just not learn these new tricks.

Posted by Doug McCaughan in : Games/Puzzles, Of InterestThis game (click the British flag for English) has two balls and two paddles. As you move your mouse left and right the short paddle moves horizontally while the long paddle rocks left to right. The goal is to keep the ball on the long paddle from rolling off while not letting the bouncing ball past the small paddle. Very challenging!

Don’t believe ANYTHING on the Internet October 27, 2006 4:25 pm
Posted by Doug McCaughan in : Of InterestFake picture — Real pciture The fake site might be work safe as long as you don’t want to see the photo without the blur. If you don’t want to click the links, the fake picture shows Donald Duck "accidentally" pulling down Christina Aguilera’s top to reveal a pierced nipple on her right breast.
Faker’s site is not work safe! Includes nudity.
Just remember, use Snopes and other resources to confirm information. Photoshop in the hands of a skilled artist can make almost anything look real. Learn to laugh.

Update: Cake glazed. Perhaps I made my glaze (a vanilla glaze) too runny and I guess I didn’t have to use all the glaze but it looks good.

Posted by Doug McCaughan in : Politics, Touchy Subjects, United StatesThe Devil is red. Blood is red. War causes bloodshed. Negative things are red like stop signs and "don’t do that" signs. Angry people turn red. The button Bush keeps his finger on is red. Raw meat is red. A misleading story is a red herring. The 48 continental are red . WHhhyyyyyyyyy!
