What do you think of the audio narrations? October 22, 2007 11:16 am

I know James liked the first audio narration. How are they being received by other readers? I know a couple were rushed and poorly read. Is anyone listening to them? Is there opportunity here for making Reality Me more accessible to people with vision challenges?

Narration: [audio:http://realityme.net/wp-content/uploads/2007/10/whydoyoublog.mp3]

I have explained why I blog. Different people have different motivations. Some for money; some for pleasure; some to educate; some to vent; some to communicate a message; and some for friendship. Have you read about "The red-headed, left thumb blogger"? I hadn’t until Chris Brogan introduced me to her through his "Glenda Watson Hyatt Rocks" post. Glenda Watson Hyatt blogs and Twitters. Play the video to be inspired and see how this has changed her world. You can help her get paid to blog for a year by voting for her.

Glenda Watson Hyatt shares her experiences living with cerebral palsy to motivate and inspire others to think about how they perceive their own situation and their own world around them. She does all this by typing with only her left thumb! [Source, Blog for a Year]

Looks like Philadelphia is pressuring the Boy Scouts of America to accept gay scouts. This will be interesting to see how it pans out.

PHILADELPHIA – The city has decided that the Boy Scouts chapter here must pay fair-market rent of $200,000 a year for its city-owned headquarters because it refuses to permit gay Scouts.

The organization’s Cradle of Liberty Council, which currently pays $1 a year in rent, must pay the increased amount to remain in its downtown building past May 31

The Supreme Court ruled in 2000 that Scouts, as a private group, have a First Amendment right to bar gays from membership.

Contests without strings October 16, 2007 9:08 am

I must say, I go through phases of loving contests. Blogging seems to present opportunity for contests that do not come with strings attached or hordes of junk mail. Contest Blogger has announced that Romance Tracker is having a Love Contest and that you can be placed in a drawing to win $100 simply by linking to their home page with the anchor text "love" (as I just did). Be sure to follow up with an email to let them know you created the link. You can also simply subscribe to their rss feed and email them. Good luck!

I love The CommonCraft Show! I wish I had the time and equipment to produce such quality videos. If you still read blogs and new sites in a browser instead of a feed reader, let The CommonCraft help you with this video!

To boldly stoned where no man…zombies!

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) – Korean-born actor John Cho of "Harold & Kumar" fame has been cast as Sulu in the new "Star Trek" feature, playing a role immortalized by Japanese-American actor George Takei.

Additionally, Briton Simon Pegg (“Shaun of the Dead”) has boarded the Paramount project as Scotty, the ship’s Scottish chief engineer. [Source]

Dude, maybe they forgot the mission. "Star Trek? I dunno. Like some space spoof my grandparents watched. I think that Boston Legal guy was in it. Wanna get a burger?"

Update: Logtar has a list of the entire cast. That’s right. The new Star Trek crew is Sylar (brain sucker), Shaun (zombie killer), a pirate, Bruce Banner (you know..The Hulk), a murderer, and Harold Lee (herb that’s outta this world). They’ve boldly gone… (It’s actually a very good cast!)

Update: Kirill, (another killer) will be joining the cast. Thanks to Cinemagical for the Star Trek update and thanks to Cathy for the heads up.

Cathy is quoted in the Knoxnews article How goes security in schools?.

“I like the SROs. They’re good people, and they give the students the sense of ‘somebody’s there and is keeping an eye out,’ ” said Cathy McCaughan, mother of students at Bearden middle and high schools.

But, she said, “I don’t know if they’re keeping an eye out for the kids so much (as) the vice principals’ disciplinary issues.”

Cathy won! She won "3 nights in Sedona, AZ – Retreat and Heal" prize from Darren Rowse’s Problogger Birthday Bash. Oh oh! I wonder who she’ll take. Pick me! Pick me! It’s the Grand Canyon! After 6 years of marriage we can finally do something that resembles a honeymoon! Anyone want to babysit for a week?
