Ramblings, often stream of conscious, journaling the events of my life.
A dose of reality
Last night I stayed up late trying to get some headway on some code. I woke several times throughout the night to try to get an early start on the day. I’m sore, tired, and my head feels like I should take my drill to it to release some pressure. The pantry is thinning and the well is drying up. The clock is spinning like a spring broke. My morning has begun with a monkey wrench and Wednesdays are categorically the worst day of the week for me.
How’s your day?
Update: Nucking futs!

Mondays begin with error messages
Just once I’d like a Monday to start off with something that doesn’t look like this:
An error occured while Parsing an XML document.
Content is not allowed in prolog.
Update: The XML file had been corrupted on uploading it to the production server. Uploading a zip file and extracting it on the server solved the problem. Also added trim() to make sure there was no extraneous whitespace.
Masked Marauders Falling from the Sky
I just heard the most awful screaming outside like cats fighting buy only different. A quick glance to the couch assured me the dogs were inside, safe and not causing problems. I bolted outside but didn’t make it one step beyond the threshold of the front door for staring at me was a raccoon! As a leaves and a flower floated down from the tree above, I shot quick looks for the cat because sure the cat and raccoon were having a territorial issue. No, she sat calmly on the brick end of the wall where her food bowl stays out of the dogs’ reach. She stared at the ‘coon as if to voice, "what’s your problem?" The raccoon was stunned and so was I. Before I could pull my senses together enough to take a picture, since it was only 5 feet away from me, the raccoon waddled off. I looked up and there in the tree were two other raccoons looking down. Obviously they had a disagreement and this one was either pushed for fell 50 or 60 feet to the ground. Wonder if it is hurt. These must be the family of 5 cute babies that used to raid our garbage so long ago. They have grown into plump adults. I bet the clan is down to three (or maybe two now).
18 children? I asked Cathy for a 6th.
Why Twitter Rocks!
Without Twitter, where else would you heard about "frog potion" and "skunkwork lab"?
Today would be a good day to pull my frog potion out of the skunkwork lab. It isn’t complete due to missing ingredients. [Source, Twitter, @selves]
Question for kia owners

What is "esc off"? I can make far too many geeky jokes about this button.

Take THAT you evil code!
Yes! I have been fighting a horrid coding problem and the code just lost! I beat it! I mean this is the type of problem that makes you have bald spots and want to give up programming for something less painful like digging latrines in third countries. This is like I’ve been trying to build a car engine but everything is in metric and all my tools are SAE and the client doesn’t care about the engine but really wants to know why the paint isn’t on the car yet. Oh how I want to be beyond the paint and putting the last bit of polish on the application. Today I should be able to make much progress. Oh wait, no I have to be at the body shop by 8am! Guess my workday will begin at 10am. How frustrating!
Bust’d
So I’m walking out of Walmart to the car and I see this woman approaching. I’m staring at her and staring at her and staring at her and staring at her when suddenly it occurs to me that her shirt has words on it. The words read, "KEEP STARING!" No, I don’t know what her face looked like.
Update: My wife actually asked, "were you really staring at that woman?" and I had to explain, "It’s difficult not to stare when something is covering up the entire horizon!"
