Sheriff Hunts Someone from the Air

Yesterday a low flying sheriff’s helicopter circled over our house several times. We believe they thought a criminal was in the creek. Roughly 45 minutes later, the police scanner reported apprehending someone at the Weigel’s nearest our house and the helicopters (there were at least 2) went away. When it took the most direct path over our house I had the video camera paused and missed the best shot. This video mostly shows trees.

A couple of things you will hear in this video:

  1. "they must be 100′ off the ground" – okay. exaggeration and not well seen in this video. The first video I tried shooting, and had the dog gone thing paused, was when they flew directly overhead and it did look much lower
  2. "could it be drugs" – the DEA flies helicopters over these parts frequently during prime growing season but usually they are over the farms and properties along the river.

The person they were hunting was caught about 45 minutes later 1/4-1/2 mile from my house

DeadRising Wii Feedback Needed

dead-rising-wiiNoah just upgraded from 12 years old to 13 years old. He went into Target with his birthday money and came out with a Wii game called "Deadrising – Chop Till You Drop" The kids play first person shooters but Tommy brought one home from a friend’s house once that had so much foul language that I had to ban it from the house. I like to keep violence in check with the children. I am realistic about it. Play acting or gaming violence is part of being a kid. Today’s games do have the opportunity to be far too graphic. This one is rated M for mature and says 17+. The element are "blood and gore," "intense violence," and "language." I have more hesitation on this one because the Wii is in the common area, it is likely to be seen by the 4 and 7 year olds.

So, my gaming friends, do I let the 13 year old keep this game or force him to return it and buy something less violent and graphic? Having the Wii spewing out profanities is probably my biggest concern.

Drunk Bastard

Can you imagine growing up and having to explain at every pool party why the letters D-B were on your shoulder? "Oh, that means my father is an a**hole."

Floyd County Georgia authorities arrested a father for what he did to his three year old son. Investigators say he tattooed the letters "D-B" on the boy’s right shoulder. The father says it stands for "daddy’s Boy." … the father admitted to police that he was drunk … [Source, WDEF News, Father Charged With Tattooing His 3 Year Old]

Jumpcut.com shutting down!

I had a bothersome email this morning alerting me that Jumpcut is closing its doors. Why was this bothersome? Mainly because I didn’t know what Jumpcut was nor did I realize I had an account…but sure enough I do!

Jumpcut is a place to make movies and interact with people. This is your personal home, where you can work with your stuff and see activity that is related to you. As you upload and interact with Jumpcut, it will fill up nicely. [Source, Jumpcut]

Here’s the email:

Dear Jumpcut user,

After careful consideration, we will be officially closing the Jumpcut.com site on June 15, 2009. This was a difficult decision to make, but it’s part of the ongoing prioritization efforts at Yahoo!

We have released a software utility that allows you to download the movies you created on Jumpcut to your computer. As well, you can now download your original assets. Please visit the download page at http://www.jumpcut.com/myhome/?subnav=download to get started.

Once you download your movies, you may choose to upload them to another site such as Flickr, which allows video uploads for short videos (90 seconds or less). You can find out more here: http://flickr.com/explore/video

Thanks for being a part of Jumpcut.

Social Media Let’s Us Be Close to the Stars

In the connected world, we have certain names that ring as superstars like Robert Scoble and Chris Brogan (and a long list of others). These are the people who have found fame and limelight on the Internet. They may or may not be known outside of the tech crowd but they have such a following within the tech crowd that like the Hollywood superstars, they have an aura of being untouchable. Coincidentally, the same tool that has helped give them their presence also breaks down the barriers and gives someone like myself, who is unlikely to get out to the big conferences, a chance to interact with these folk. I keep the MyBlogLog widget on my sidebar as a little self-serving tool that shows me the recent visitors to Reality Me and I must admit I was taken back to see Chris Brogan’s picture down there. He visited, not read in RSS, but visited Reality Me! But why? I’ve been too busy with work to blog anything noteworthy; it’s all been nonsensical quickies. Oh! But I did link to Speaking and Presenting- Your Next Actions and that fact that he came back to see what I’d said is why he stands above the rest of us in Internet marketing. There’s a lesson in that for the rest of us.

Lovin’ the black censor bar!

When I posted I’m moving to France! I saw today’s post in the comments. Btw, if you haven’t watched I’m moving to France!, go do it now and for added fun start both videos at the same time!

Today’s video reminds me of college for some reason. These people are so happy! I bet there’d be no terrorism if more people played with the black censor bar. The guy in the cowboy hat at the end of the video is my new hero!

(I replaced this fuzzy Youtube video with the much clearer DailyMotion video that appears to actually be placed by The BPA)

This is the "Toe Jam" video by Fatboy Slim featuring David Byrne and Dizzee Rascal. I find it altogether too amusing. When I first discovered this one there were just over 6000 views. It’ll be interesting to see how fast those numbers grow.

Update: Some information about this hit video from the Fall of 2008. The Toe Jam song was released July 15, 2008 by The BPA (Brighton Port Authority an alias for musician Norman Cook who is better known as Fatboy Slim. I am becoming a Fatboy Slim fanboy as I was in awe of his Weapons of Choice video featuring Christoper Walken. Toe Jam is a collaboration with David Byrne and Dizzee Rascal. The video is directed by Keith Schofield (Keith Haverbrooks, Eric Schoman and Jeff Mayfield). The Toe Jam song lives on the I Think We’re Gonna Need a Bigger Boat album released January 6, 2009. There is a video that is much crisper but it bleeps the dirty word. So, who’s got the raw footage and outtakes?

The BPA also ran a contest which ended March 1, 2009 allowing people to download the Toe Jam song and make their own videos as a promotion for their album release. Although the contest has ended, Toe Jam is still available for download.
